Our good medical care project which we started in the year 2013 to reduce incidence of maternal mortality, child mortality, morbidity and malnutrition in the rural deprived areas where we donated medical equipment through the support of LDS charity to five communities including Afife tradition area which then was having one bed for over thousand patients who used to attend the clinic in a month this is because the health center is the only closest health facility to the people around Afife traditional area in the Ketu North of the Volta region .
There were many cases where families have lost their dear ones through child birth due to the facility not been well equipped with medical equipment for the nurses in charge to deliver efficiently. In this community, motor cycle is the most common means of transport for the pregnant women .On one of the cases that we were told, the nurse narrated that, “she had a critical case that was referred to Abor which is about 10km from Afife health center , that she did not allow the family to take motor bike (Okada) because of the condition of the woman but before the family was able to get a vehicle to transport the woman to Abor Sacred Hospital , she died with the baby”
When tigo communication network launched the “tigo smile champions” initiative requesting that individuals and organization should proposed the most need s of a community that tigo would access and help the selected communities to develop and implement, we wrote the story about Afife Health center submitted last year July and on the 11th November 2014 , tigo communication network donated ambulance to the health center .
The Chiefs, religions leaders , opinion leaders, assembly member and citizens were in attendance to received the vehicle on behalf of Afife health center.
WSF director for health Peter Ahunar asked the citizens to ask the members of the community to put the ambulance to a good use and help the health center to sustain this great donation from tigo.
The assembly member Hon Francis Seglah appealed to tigo on behalf of the community that tigo should also speed up to support their requirement for the maternity block for the women and children.
